Hi Everyone,
Thank you kindly to the Restaurants/Eateries and Café’s that have already responded to our email inviting them to advertise their establishment with Coeliac in the City.
Well… the week (13th – 20th March) It is Coeliac Awareness Week. One member was pleased to report that Coles advertised the fact on their overhead microphone – we are moving forward.
I would also like to give a big shout out to Facebook Group ‘Coeliac Disease in Australia’ (https://www.facebook.com/groups/256950764375227/?fref=nf)
I have only been a member for a few months but the amount of traffic is amazing. The members are just like a family and are there to help each other – all sorts of advice is forthcoming. One day someone was in a Supermarket and couldn’t distinguish if the ingredients on a certain product were gluten free – within minutes there were at least 10 responses. It is fantastic. Sometimes people just need to have a vent, or ask if certain alcohol is OK, share a recipe or even medical issues get discussed. Being Coeliac is sometimes a lonely and frustrating disease.
The lack of awareness is also very frustrating, comments like – ‘ a little bit of breadcrumb should be ok’ to ‘ just have a break for a day’ , clearly some people don’t know about cross-contamination and how even (for some) a bread crumb can have them laid up for a day or two in chronic pain. The group just brings like-minded people together and very speedily answers queries and concerns.
I am off for a weeks leave, staying at the Palazzo Versace Hotel – I am told they actually have a separate area for Gluten Free products at their very famous Breakfast Buffet – stay tuned for an update on that .
We will also make time to visit and review some of the lovely Marina Restaurants – I have been told that Queensland is very Gluten Free Friendly which is good news.
Enough from me – enjoy your week everyone
Rosie
